The tires on these rims aren’t worth but maybe $25 apiece.

He probably bought tires and rims — on credit — and has these left over. At the price he is asking, he’ll still have the old tires when the new tires wear out.

Not a terrible price in reality. A set of 4 Primewells mounted/balanced will cost about $280, so I’d talk him down to $2-250.
Primewells are actually quite good for cheap tires ($60/tire), they wear relatively quick, but they offer great grip in just about any condition while still riding nice and being quiet.

Not really. I bought a set of these EXACT rims at the junkyard plus a set of brand new tires from Amazon for about $200.

Fair point. I really don’t know anything about those tires in the CL add, but I did recently buy a set of the “almost cheapest” tires from Discount tire for $330 installed.
Though I just noticed that one tire is different in the ad... that is a red flag for supposedly brand new tires.

Really? My last set of new tires was $330 for the “almost cheapest” option installed at Discount Tire.
His price is optimistic (depending on the tire quality), but not too far out of bounds.

Were you aware that you can actually rent wheels and tires? Probably by the week. That would explain all of the PoS hoopties in my neighborhood running on 20s...

I think he’s 2x the reality price. The tires are so-so, they don’t all four match, and the rims have almost no value. If they were 5-on-5 or 5-on-4.75 Chevy rims, then maybe.

Mere 20s? Not twenny-foes?

Toyota tax.
But a set of wheels and usable tires are around $300 for Subarus too.
